Chronological Events
Year One:
- Sometime during Bonnie’s Freshman year of college, Nick introduces Bonnie and Peter “at lunch”. The three of them spend a lot of time together during the end of Freshman year.
- Nick and Bonnie frequently hang out together over the summer.
Year Two:
- August – before the start of school: At Nick and Peter’s, Bonnie, now a Sophomore, plays quarters with the guys. Peter pressures Bonnie to drink more, Bonnie and Peter leave Nick to go to Peter’s bedroom where they have sex and their relationship begins.
- November. Bonnie and Peter talk while looking at clouds, Peter confesses his love for Bonnie and confirms that they are officially a couple.
- Bonnie and Peter remain a couple throughout her sophomore year.
Year Three:
- September: Bonnie’s Junior year begins. Bonnie and Peter are still together. Are things rocky? Is Peter faking it and wanting to break up?
- Before Winter break: Nick finds inebriated Bonnie in the bathroom at Nick and Peter’s Christmas house party
- Peter rapes Bonnie
- Bonnie does not hear from Peter again.
- Bonnie shares what happened with Nick (over Winter break?)
- Bonnie returns from winter break – 5 weeks after the rape
- January: Nick confronts Peter about raping Bonnie
- Late January: School resumes.
- Late January/Early February? Bonnie confronts Peter about the rape in the alley behind Brommie’s, Bonnie punches Peter

- A drunk Nick wanders down to the lake where Peter drowned. After nearly falling into the lake, Nick passes out in the snow.
- Moms load Nick on a sled and take him to the memorial. They convince Nick to attend Peter’s memorial service by showing him the dead photo of Peter.
- Moms confront Bonnie about Peter’s death, invite her to his “celebration of life,” give her a photo of Peter’s dead body, and she calls Peter’s phone after they leave
- Moms, Nick, Dodie, and Bonnie attend Peter’s memorial
- Moms confront Bonnie about not being “in mourning” enough
- Bonnie and Nick argue about the rape, their friendship, and Peter’s death at the lakeside memorial (same night as the memorial)
- One or two days later: Bonnie brings a casserole to Dodie and tells him that Peter raped her
- Mom’s realize they can’t control Bonnie, that Peter’s perfect memory will not be perfectly preserved. They are now forced to face the reality of their own boys as well.
- Bonnie calls Peter’s phone and he joins her in her room and as they review alternative choices on the night he raped her.
